Hi, I'm Nguyen Thanh Dong (call me Dave)

I'm a JavaScript developer with over 5 years of experience, currently focusing on Front-end – especially with React/NextJS. I enjoy working with TypeScript, value clarity and precision, and always strive to handle even the toughest edge cases cleanly.

My personality is quite balanced: logical and clear-headed at work, but also friendly and approachable in a team environment. I’m passionate about what I do, often taking on the toughest parts and not afraid to dive deep into complex systems.

For me, work is not just about 'completing tasks', but also about:

Optimizing user experience

Keeping the codebase maintainable

Mentoring and sharing knowledge with others

To me, being 'technically strong' isn't about knowing tons of libraries – it’s about choosing the right tool, understanding the core problem, and being willing to steer things in the right direction, even if it means starting over.

Career Journey

From a tech student who loved tinkering with code, I restarted my journey by enrolling at FPT Polytechnic in IT. During that time, I studied, worked part-time, and taught myself soft skills to prepare for an early career.

I started at Newwave Solution as an intern, gradually becoming a core developer responsible for the source base, code reviews, and mentoring interns. At every stage, I actively pushed to 'level up' – both technically and in work mindset.

Over the past 5 years, I’ve joined multiple B2B projects with heavy business logic, long-term maintenance needs, and deep library customization. Along the way, I’ve been recognized with awards like Rookie of the Year, MVP, Rising Star, and most recently, the 2024 Dedication Award.

Currently, I’m a Front-End Leader, capable of:

Proactively estimating and bootstrapping new project source bases

Leading front-end technical direction

Mentoring and reviewing for junior developers

In the journey ahead,

I’m not aiming for upper management, but rather to become a front-end specialist: technically solid, mastering complex systems, and having a strong voice in technical decisions.

I’m also looking for an environment with skilled teammates, clear processes, and a true learning culture.

Born, raised, and studied in Hung Yen until...
I was born around midnight, I think.
04/2009
My parents decided to send me to Hanoi.
They made a bold decision to send me to Hanoi to study, giving me a better chance to grow.
04/2014
Graduated middle school with excellent academic performance and conduct.
Teachers noticed me because I did well in extracurricular activities, presentations, and making PowerPoints.
04/2016
School let students organize Christmas, and I was the Design Team Leader.
It wasn’t a big deal, but we managed to raise significant contributions from parents and English centers to organize the event right at school. Around 500 students from in and outside the school attended.
04/2017
Graduated high school with good academic performance and conduct.
I may not have been the top in academics, but I stood out for being active and involved in many school events.
07/2017
Passed the entrance exam to Hanoi University of Civil Engineering – Urban Economics
But I soon realized it wasn’t the right field for me. I had always wanted to study IT.
12/2017
Decided to study abroad in Japan
Unfortunately, my visa application was rejected due to financial documentation issues. Later we found out the bank had made an English typo in my 'financial proof' letter.
10/2018
Chose to study at FPT Polytechnic Hanoi
Since I lost interest in Economics and couldn’t go to Japan, I decided to study IT – Software Application – in Vietnam.
11/2018
Started teaching basic Japanese while studying
As a student, I wanted to gain more experience and improve my life skills.
07/2020
Started internship at Newwave Solution JSC
Joined through a job fair at school. Thanks to the experience I gained during my studies, I passed the company’s interview.
09/2020
Worked as a collaborator at Newwave Solution JSC
Still had classes to attend, so I couldn’t work full-time yet.
12/2020
Became an official employee at Newwave Solution JSC
Even though I hadn’t graduated yet, I was able to work full-time, so the company signed an official contract with me.

Graduated from FPT Polytechnic with Distinction
Proud to have completed the program with excellent results and already secured a stable job.

Received Rookie of the Year 2020 at Newwave Solution JSC
Award for the most promising new employee.
03/2022
Received MVP of the Month at Newwave Solution JSC
Award for the most outstanding employee of February.

Received Rising Star Award 2023 at Newwave Solution JSC
Award for a ‘rising star’ who made great contributions to the company and projects.

I could say I became a 'Sub-Leader'
I started being trusted to take ownership of front-end parts in projects. I did code reviews and guided teammates to complete the projects.

Started doing tasks usually handled by 'Leaders'
My supervisors trusted me with estimating for project quotations, setting up front-end source bases, interviewing interns, and mentoring them.
09/2024
Capable of fulfilling all responsibilities of a Front-End Leader
I was able to take full ownership of project technologies, set up source bases, review code, and train new team members.
